Model WG-50
Wave Gauge / Capacitance Meter      NEW! USB Interface

[WG-50 -- 16cm x 11cm x 8.5cmThe WG-50 is used to measure wave heights to an accuracy of 0.4%. This capacitance wave meter has a linear response and is perfect for hydraulics laboratories with either small or large wave tanks. The WG-50's all-weather construction also make it useful for measuring in situ waves, harbour tides and coastal wash.

A number of probe lengths can be used. Probes as short as 10cm have been made for use in wave tanks and flumes.  Lengths up to 20m have been used to measure the extent of waves mounting a beach. Contact us with your probe length requirements. The WG-50 can also operate in a master-slave setup so that interference can be avoided when two or more probes may be positioned close together (closer than 1m). The probe needs to be attached to something fixed like the top, side or catwalk of a water tank, or the side of a pier. If the water depth is not too great, then a stake can be driven into the bottom of a river or dam and the probe attached to it.

Wave StaffReleased in 1998, the WG-50 consists of a weatherproof control unit (shown; 160mm x 110mm x 85mm), a BNC cable 30cm to 100cm in length, and a wave probe. The Model WG-10 was originally designed by the National Water Research Institute of Environment Canada and is now manufactured under licence by RBR Ltd.

The control unit has a BNC connector for connecting the probe and a Bendix Pigmy 6 pin connector for power input and signal output. Two internal calibration controls and three internal switches are provided within the control unit. One control sets the output signal to zero when the mid marker on the probe is a mean water level. The other control sets the output to +5vdc when the water is at the top maker on the probe. Two of the three switches are used to augment the two controls, whereas the third selects the probe charging current. Controls and switches are factory preset for the range intended and the units are crystal controlled at 4.19 Mhz.
